Our very own Sligo Marathon

Like many of you, we had big plans for 2020. Amazing times with ambassadors, staff and people interacting with our organisation….lots of social gatherings arranged for 2020 then Covid19 happened! All of our social plans to see you all; our supporters and ambassadors were taken away. We had relay teams set to run the Belfast marathon, one ambassador in particular; Andrew was also set to run the Longford marathon, but both races were cancelled.

Deflated….after all of our training Andrew was determined to continue. While most of us were running a leg of the marathon Andrew was running the full 26.2 Miles he had invested his time and energy to train for this and was going to see it through.

With lockdown easing in August a few of us got the opportunity to go to Sligo and run at Sligo Grammar School racing track, Andrew ran 170 laps of this same track; it was great to be able to be there to cheer him on.

We had our social media challenge with people donating, running, cycling or working out in some way. This was for the 45 million estimated slaves in the world and nominating their friends to do the same. It was an amazing feeling knowing the staff, volunteers and ambassadors were all working towards the same goal of raising funds and awareness to combat human trafficking. We have raised close to £3000 with all the proceeds going towards educating the young people and children about human trafficking all over the island of Ireland.
